Grace is doing soooo much better.
So far, the doctors have ruled out celiac disease, appendicitis, a UTI and most likely, any viruses.

So what does she have?

Our doctor said that it is one of two things:

1) Something that he's never seen before (uh, okay).
-or-
2) HSP (Henoch Schonlein Purpura), which last for about 6 weeks and includes a rash (hers was very slight), joint soreness (which she hasn't had), blood in the urine (which she'll probably have for about six months) and intestinal pain (which she had worse than most, but which is very minor now that she is taking a steroid).

HSP isn't a virus, but is triggered by upper respiratory viruses (Grace had hand, foot and mouth disease the week before she got really sick).

I'm not sure if we'll ever know what she definitely has.

But, one thing is for certain...

we love seeing that smile back on her face!

It's so strange to hear a doctor say they don't really know . . . but whatever the "official" diagnosis, I'm glad she is feeling more like herself again!

That hand, foot, mouth stuff is pretty crazy on it's own. No wonder she's been feeling so bad with something else possibly on top of that. Hoping it all runs it's course and she is feeling great soon!!! Blessings, Jennifer

I love the picture of you, Grace, and David. Beautiful. HSP sure sounds like a tough road for Grace. Seems like she is marching through like a trooper. What a light and grace-filled spirit!

I happened on your blog because of the HSP connection. My 7 year old son had this in May. We were in the hospital for 25 days, until they finally diagnosed him with HSP. Once they started prednisone he was better within 24 hours. What a miracle drug! His also was triggered by a horrible case of hand foot mouth disease earlier that month. He was on prednisone all summer, but overall has been doing great this fall. I hope the same for your daughter!
