buttons and other technological questions

Sunday, March 14, 2010

With Jennifer's help, I was finally able to add 3 new buttons. And it's perfect timing (after my last post), because I know that many of you LOVE to give!! It's just so much fun, isn't it?! So check out Amazia Ministries, Sarah's Covenant Homes and Jennifer's family who is working hard to bring home precious little Nathan. All of these people love Jesus and are doing wonderful things for orphans. Could you help them in any way? I know that they would greatly apprciate it!

On the topic of buttons, I wonder if anyone could give a little help to someone who is very non-technologically inclined (uh...that would be me!). I have four questions.

1) How do you link to another site without including the whole site address?
2) How do you make pictures larger?
3) Is there a way to upload higher quality videos to blogger? My camera can take higher quality video and I can download it to my computer, but I can't upload it to blogger.
4) Why can't I format a post the way I would like to format it? I especially have trouble with getting the right spacing. I space everything how I want it while I'm typing, but then it doesn't have any spaces in the post.

Thanks so much for your help!!

I'm not exactly saavy with the computer myself, but I have learned a thing or two about blogging.
1. To post a link without using the whole address, click on the link icon (looks like a chain link) on the new post page. Type in the link address. It will show up on your screen. Then I just highlight the address and type over it with whatever I want to say like "here" or "click on this" etc. This may not be the most efficient way to do it, but that's how I got it to work for me!
2. If you have a flickr account, you can embed your photos into your blog so they are larger. When you upload one of your photos to flickr and then click on the photo, one of the tags at the top says, "See all sizes". Then you can choose small, medium, or large. It will give you HTML code for the size you choose. Copy and paste the code into your blog (use the picture link like you normally would). I love having some of my photos larger. :)
Hope this helps-- I don't know much about videos.. so I'll let someone else answer that one!
Thanks for the new buttons-- I will check them out!

Thanks so much for adding Nathan's button and the sweet words! I see you got some insight on the linking (the one from Gwen is actually easier then what I knew to do, so I'm glad to see her input!!). Not sure exactly on the spacing...but I blogger always removes my paragraphs. To ensure that doesn't happen, at the end of every paragraph, I type (sign above the ,)/p(sign above the .)(sign above the ,)p(sign above the .) to force a new paragraph. Note: It wouldn't let me use the actual greater/lesser signs in this comment.

A couple of months ago, I figured out that I could make my pictures bigger on blogger.

Go to your "Dashboard" and then click on the "Settings" tab. Scroll down and just under "Global Settings" you'll see "Select post editor". If you click on "Updated editor" you'll have the option to post the pictures BIGGER when you add them to your blog! :)

Let me know if you have any trouble!

Blessings,
Jenn
