We had such a great time meeting with "our" Chinese student on Sunday. To be honest, I was hoping to be matched with a young woman, since we have five children and I wasn't sure how comfortable a young man would be in relating to them all. But, there was certainly nothing to be concerned about! He asked the kids to call him gege (big brother), and had a lot of fun interacting with all of them.
When Yi got to our house, we got out the atlas and talked about all of the places that we had been in China, where Yi was from and where our three China babies had lived. Then we ate dinner. It was so much fun to talk with Yi and gain some insights into everyday life in China. Afterwards, David, Yi and all of the kids (except Grace) went outside to play soccer. When they came in, Jadon got a book and plopped himself on Yi's lap as if he had known Yi all of his life. Yi didn't mind at all and it was so sweet to see Jadon look up to Yi and enjoy him.
What fun to have a new big brother to hang out with!
Edited to note: We are sponsoring an international student through our local university (just in case this post didn't make complete sense!). We'll be meeting with Yi on a regular basis, just to be American "friends" to someone who is far away from home.

Huh?! I guess I have been "out of the loop" for a while. Are you hosting an exchange student?
Oh Sarah, this seems to be a very good fit for your family! We've considered hosting a student as well - one of these years! Our good friends hosted a Korean college student who had studied in China, and he has truly become part of their family. Very special.

This is awesome! You'll have to fill us in on the details! :) What a neat experience for your family and for Yi as well!
